Art Jipson is an Associate Professor of Sociology and the Director of the Criminal Justice Studies Program in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work at the University of Dayton. He has been involved in computer-mediated communication, journaling, blogging, and various forms of social networks and social media since 1991. He has led numerous workshops on how to use the Internet and social media in traditional, hybrid and online teaching. His work has been published in the Journal of Criminal Justice Education, Journal of the Institute of Justice & International Studies, Research in Political Sociology, The American Sociologist, The Justice Professional, American Journal of Criminal Justice, and The International Review of Law, Computers and Technology, and Popular Music and Society. He edited a special issue of Sociological Focus with Paul Becker on research on White racial extremism and hate crime. Most recently he has edited a special issue of Popular Music and Society on hate music 2007. His research plans include writing a books on extremism and the Internet, roadside memorials, and community creation on twitter and other forms of social media. As "Dr. J" he hosts "The School of Rock with Dr. J" on WUDR and writes for The School of Rock Blog.
